The Wiz was an iconic musical of the late 70s. Set to an amazing soundtrack of soul infused showtunes, this movie got you dancing. Featuring an all-star cast comprised of Michael Jackson, Lena Horne, Richard Pryor and Diana Ross, this story re-told the Wizard of Oz classic. With a graffiti filled, disco fueled background, this movie was captivating.
In this version, Dorothy is from Harlem, and Oz resembles New York City. Producer Quincy Jones handled many of the song re-workings, adapting tunes from Luther Vandross. Jones also wrote original music for the score.
Although the film was not a commercial success, The Wiz remains a cult classic film.
