Mirame Minis Fashion Afterschool
Join us for seven weeks of fashion design after school. Students will be learn the basics of designing, cutting and sewing. They will be guided by the teacher in how to create and execute a design. Fashion illustration and garment construction will be taught. The semester will culminate in a runway coaching session and fashion show.
Classes will be afterschool from 3:30-4:30. We offer an add-on service to pick up your child and escort them down to the shop at 65 Main St. Suitable for children 12-18.
We are exploring the option of adding a younger cohort of 7-11. Please email us if interested.
About the Teacher:
Melinda Huff is the Founder of Mirame, a womenswear brand designed in the Hudson Valley and made in NYC. Melinda is a mother of three who was born and raised in the Hudson Valley. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Contemplative Psychology and a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. She also attended the Fashion Institute of Technology where she studied Fashion Design.
Besides being a professional Fashion Designer, Melinda formally taught at the Westchester Fashion Academy for Children, and has extensive experience working with children and families in the Early Intervention program.
About the Co-Teacher:
Karen Barke is a New York State–certified teacher with a master’s degree in education and more than 31 years of experience working with students from kindergarten through high school. Her career has also included mentoring high school interns as they began to imagine their own futures. Beyond the classroom, Karen has spent more than two decades immersed in the vintage fashion market, an enduring expression of her commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship, and giving beautiful things a second life. She lives in Carmel, New York, and is the proud mother of a college student and two Shih Tzus.
