Wellness for 2021

This week, we sat down with Holistic Nutritionist & Virtual Wellness Coach Meg Seibel. She shared with us some tips on not only getting 2021 off to a good start, but creating a plan to make it stick. Below is an edited excerpt from our IGTV chat.

What is your name and title? Share with us a few sentences about your background and current work.

I’m Megan Seibel, Holistic Nutritionist & Virtual Wellness Coach.  

I have a background in acting & education.  I studied theater at Tisch School of the Arts in NYC then moved to L.A. and had a career as an actress.  During my time in L.A. I fell in love with yoga and became a Certified Yoga Teacher and then went on to get my Masters in Education, did my thesis on yoga in the classroom and taught Kindergarten and yoga until becoming a mom in 2013. As a stay at home mom I wanted to create a career from home around my passion for health and fitness.  I started coaching women in fitness in 2015 and I became a Certified Holistic Nutritionist in 2017.  Since then I have been coaching women and helping them create more health and happiness through home fitness, healthy food and a fun online communtiy~!

Why is working with women and wellness important to you?

Working with women and wellness is very important to me. Women take care of everyone else.  We give to our families, our jobs, our friends and our communities.  And oftentimes to the detriment of our own health.  I want to teach women how to create more energy, health and happiness through simple habits that they can create at home so that they are always supported and are able to live life to the fullest!  

For those of us who may struggle with getting started on our wellness journey any tips/tricks?

If you are just getting started on your wellness journey, start small and start with one simple habit.  Maybe it is committing to 30 minutes of daily exercise in the morning before the kids wake up, or maybe you are going to commit to meal prepping all of your lunches for the week on Sundays so you are fueled throughout the day.  Maybe it is as simple as getting 8 hours of sleep at night instead of binge watching Netflix.  Or maybe you will simply start with 10 minutes of meditation in the morning to help your anxiety and calm your mind.  

Once we start a wellness routine, what are two simple steps we can take to ensure that we keep on the path?

3 things to help you stay on your path to wellness are 1) DAILY ACTION- make your wellness a lifestyle by building habits and taking small simple daily actions. When healthy habits like eating more green vegetables or working out become a habit, you will still do it even on days you do not feel unmotivated because it will just be part of your lifestyle!  2) ACCOUNTABILITY- You need a tribe or at least one friend who is going to be on the journey with you! So many times we try to reach our goals alone and we give up and blame ourselves BUT we just need community!  

Whether your goal is to build muscle or simply to tone, working out will not only build confidence for your swimsuit body, but also strengthen your bones.

Are exercise and nutrition the secret sauce to living a more vital life?

YES!  Our bodies were meant to move and whole foods are what we were meant to eat!  When we give our bodies the tools it needs to thrive we will feel good, look good and have the energy to live a happy and energetic life!!  Exercise is not just about weight loss, it is about ENERGY.  The more we move the more energy we have!  And food is what gives our bodies and brain energy so when we choose healthy foods our bodies and brains know exactly how to convert it into energy!!

Right now I am helping women get started with a 9 Week Control Freak Challenge that focuses on strength training, Tabata Cardio and Stretching. All the workouts are 18-30 minutes and can be done at home. This challenge is perfect for anyone who wants to TAKE BACK CONTROL in the New Year, burn fat, build muscle, learn about macronutrients and get super fit!    I also have a Self Love Mindset & Movement Workshop that starts in February that will be 3 weeks long and include daily 10 minute guided meditations, 30 minutes of exercise and my mindful nutrition meal plan.
