Mirame Presents at Female Entrepreneur Event

Jessica Feingold of Kiva Zip, Melinda of Mirame, and Cyrilla of Nuts Plus Nuts

Micro-finance is an important part of every small business.  It can be described in many ways, but the way I most appreciate its value is in the context of financial equality for all.  Micro-finance as a movement encompasses the notion that access and opportunity should be available to entrepreneurs around the world regardless of economic status.  This access to financial know-how is inclusive of not only credit, but savings, insurance, and transfer of funds.  Through providing access to capital, micro-finance allows different populations to rise above their circumstances.  It is, in essence, a vehicle for change.

I was honored to speak at a micro-finance event held by Kiva Zip in conjunction with the Women's Affinity Group of Nixon Peabody.  It was a fabulous event held at the NP headquarters in Manhattan.  Women gathered to talk about business and the entrepreneurial spirit.  Mirame's work was on display, showcasing our four collections of swimwear.  We also spoke about the launch of our newest endeavor, Mirame Move (launching 11/29).

I was happy to share Mirame's journey and growth trajectory.  I discussed our behind the scenes video, which gives an intimate view of what it takes to start a fashion brand.  A essential element of this growth has been access to capital.  It was wonderful to spread the word about Kiva Zip, who has been instrumental in helping Mirame grow.  In the Spring we launched a Kiva Zip campaign, raising funds from lenders around the world.  This included amazing non-profits such as the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation.  With the crowd-funded loan, we were able to pay for the 2014 Mirame production run.  The best part is that the loans are 0% interest and work on the honor system.  With the endorsement of specific agencies, in our case the Women's Enterprise Development Center, the Kiva process is expedited even further.  Kudos to Kiva Zip for championing small business!
